Mermaiding

WHAT IS ABOUT

Mermaiding is the aquatic discipline that reproduces the swim of the mythological figures half woman and half fish.

From the hips to the feet, the body is enveloped in a sheath ending in a monofin; in Mermaiding one swims with fluid movements of the pelvis, using both legs as a caudal fin.

Both feet are inserted in a flexible plastic monofin covered with a soft and resistant fabric that allows fast and dynamic underwater displacements at each fin movement; the whole lower muscle and skeletal chain (abdominals, pelvis, buttocks, thighs, calves, ankles, and feet) is activated with no back effort. With the arms you can perform unique series of swimming activities, rotations and hydrodynamic and elegant underwater pirouette.

A DISCIPLINE FOR EVERYONE AND FOR ALL AGES

Free Diving

Learning Mermaid swimming, means also acquire and practice some free-diving techniques, as the swim becomes mainly underwater and the apnoea phases are followed by short ascents to the surface.

During the lessons, will be introduced two free-diving techniques: underwater ventilation and compensation. The ventilation is undoubtedly the most important element in the preparation of a free-diving performance and the implementation of Yoga techniques, practiced in the training phases; allow an excellent level of oxygenation and psycho-physical relaxation. For this reason the traditional technique will be integrated with “prana-yama”, the yoga breathing method which promotes deep, diaphragmatic and controlled ventilation.

Mermaiding proves then to be a complete discipline, which brings numerous physical, psychomotor and psycho-emotional benefits.
